Supporting Local Industry

Kennett Wins 2023 Master Builders Association (SA) award for supporting local industry in Mt. Gambier.

Kennett is a fourth-generation family business which started in Adelaide in 1914 by brothers Charles and Clifford Kennett. As stonemasons and home builders, the brother’s reputation for quality steadily grew and within 6 years they were managing a team of 80 tradesmen working to meet the growing demand for a Kennett built home. In the post war years after 1945, demand for housing rapidly increased and the brothers also undertook their first commercial construction project.

Charles’s sons, Neil and Dean Kennett expanded into regional SA in the 1960’s, winning a contract with the SA Housing Trust to build 50 homes in Mt Gambier. Kennett maintains an office in this regional hub today and are honoured to accept the award for Supporting Local Industry from the MBA(SA) Business Excellence Awards in 2023.

The judges comments are as follows;

“Kennett has worked hard in the Mount Gambier region, utilising their resources and volunteering their time to give back to the community.

Through the Mills project, they have fostered and supported local businesses, worked closely with local council to identify business opportunities, and utilised their construction expertise to assist the community in understanding the importance of growth within the region. The builder has focused strongly on developing a local trade base to encourage the use of local resources within the area, whilst acknowledging the opportunity for these resources to be utilised in the wider South Australian region.

In addition to this, Kennett supported the Barry Maney Group with food bank donations, and have worked closely with Master Builders SA to support the Born to Build Program through the use of Kennett’s facilities.

Giving back more than you expect to receive is clearly a strategy for Kennett and they are worthy winners of the Supporting Local Industry award.”
