Educating students on GLT/CLT Timbers

Last week architecture students from Adelaide University enjoyed an excursion to the south east to further develop their understanding of our forestry industry and timber value chain, thanks to the Green Triangle Forest Industries Hub.

The students visited plantation sites where seedlings are grown, and NeXTimber/Timberlink to learn about how locally grown timber is transformed into GLT (glue laminated timber) and CLT (cross laminated timber) for use in modern construction. The students then visited Kennett’s recently completed project, the Limestone Coast Technical College as well as the Forestry Centre of Excellence to see GLT/CLT transformed into modern real life buildings.

Kennett’s Caolan (Bucks) Buckley shared his insights into the construction of the Technical College, alongside Maddy from Russell & Yelland Architects.

The day provided a valuable opportunity for students to have a deeper understanding of this fascinating process and the practical uses for these materials.
